v1.3
Animation System, Duotone, Looks & New Pixels Effects
June 2026  ·  biggest release yet
new features
Voxel effect — isometric 3D blocks with depth sorting and brightness-driven height. Makes any image look like a scene built from voxels.
LED effect — rounded pixel grid with bloom glow, RGB subpixel strips, and specular glint. Looks like a real display panel up close.
Animation system — bring pixel effects to life with 10 motion styles. Drift, Breathe, Flow, Pour and Matrix are free. Storm, Sweep, Echo, Heartbeat and Tide are Pro. Controls include Pace, Intensity, Phase Lag, Easing, and Character Shift.
Duotone mode — pick any two colors as Ink and Paper. Works across all effects — Halftone, Dots, LEGO, Lattice, all ASCII modes, and all Dither algorithms — in both preview and export.
Looks browser — 17 professionally curated Looks with thumbnail grid and full drawer view. Switch between grid and list layout. Each Look applies filters, duotone, dither algorithm, blend mode, and character preset in one tap.
Mood-powered Shuffle & Remix — 30 handcrafted moods replace pure randomness. Every combination is tuned to look good before it hits your screen.
485+ AI backgrounds — new library of 485 backgrounds across 21 curated categories. Free and Pro tiers.
60 FPS video export — export processed video at up to 4K and 60 FPS. Pro only.
Video compare mode — real-time side-by-side comparison of the original and processed video frames.
pixel effects
LEGO fully redesigned — rounded studs, proper highlights, better brick proportions and improved depth. Looks like real LEGO bricks now.
New dither algorithms — added Bayer 8×8 and Halftone 45°. Floyd–Steinberg is now the default. All five algorithms now work correctly in video export.
Stronger chromatic shift — increased glitch intensity with more pronounced RGB channel separation.
Better effect sizing — improved size scaling at both minimum and maximum values across Dots, Halftone, LEGO, Voxel, and LED.
improvements
Unified rendering pipeline — preview and export now share the same rendering path for all pixel effects. Fewer colour differences between what you see on screen and what you download.
Video export quality — replaced the low-resolution probe canvas with a much larger render target. Sharper effect detail in exported video.
Consistent panel behaviour — Animation, Duotone, and Pixel Effects panels now all use the same toggle pattern. Controls stay visible in a disabled state instead of disappearing entirely.
Startup experience — multiple hero images now rotate randomly on each load for a more varied first impression.
Pro export gates clarified — 2K/4K resolution, 60 FPS, and export duration beyond 5 seconds are Pro. Duration is now a clear dropdown instead of a slider.
fixes
Video export colour mismatch — CSS filters are now applied to the effect layer before compositing in both image and video export, matching the preview.
Effect canvas misalignment on resize — the halftone and dither overlay now positions correctly when the browser window is resized.
Duotone missing from video export — ink backdrop, texture pass, and Lattice render were all absent from the video export path. Fixed.
ASCII animation jitter — per-frame integer character cycling replaced with a smooth time-based crawl. Dynamic ASCII matrix flicker also resolved.
Noise/grain flickering in video export — random per-pixel noise replaced with a position hash, giving consistent grain across all frames.
Shuffle applying effects before image loaded — effects now apply inside the image load callback, so the image and style always appear together.
Neon Grid Look not applying correctly — lattice-specific sliders (line width, node size, node shape, line style) were being skipped. Fixed.
Two export format dropdowns appearing at once — happened when animation and a video clip were both active simultaneously.
WebGL warmup crash on first load — shaders failed to compile silently when the video GL module hadn't finished loading. Fixed with a load-order guard.
Backgrounds drawer tab leak — category tab clicks were accidentally triggering inside the Looks drawer, causing null reference errors.
v0.1.2
Video Import, Custom Presets & New Backgrounds
June 2026
new features
Video import — drop any MP4, apply dither effects in real time and watch them render frame by frame.
Video export as MP4 — export your processed video using WebCodecs and mp4-muxer. Fully client-side, no upload, no server.
Sign in + Pro — Google OAuth via Supabase. Save unlimited custom presets, unlock premium backgrounds, and export at 2K and 4K.
Save custom presets — name and save any filter + effect combination. Synced to your account, persists across sessions.
ASCII Filled mode — a third ASCII style alongside Uniform and Dynamic. Covers every pixel with no skip threshold for a dense, full-coverage look.
7 new character presets — Blocky, Thin, Japanese, Brutal, Retro, Pixel, Tech Mono. Each creates a distinct look.
11 built-in presets — Terminal, Darkroom, Glitch, Matrix Noir, Dissolve, Retro, Halogen, Cipher, Neon Grid, Infrared, Ghost.
Crop + aspect ratio — crop your image or video with free crop or locked ratios: 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 4:5, 9:16.
Share modal — copy your current frame to clipboard or post directly to X.
50+ new backgrounds — Renaissance, Surreal, 3D, Glow, Daydream, Eye, and Hand packs added to the library.
Preset stepper arrows — cycle through ASCII presets instantly with left/right arrows without opening the dropdown.
New Export formats — Resolution, Format, Share and Export live in a near easy to access panel. Export formats: PNG, JPG, MP4
improvements
Filter architecture split — Tone and Color filters bake into the snapshot and affect effect colors. Blur, Glow, Vignette, Noise, Grain, Shift, Pixelate, and Opacity apply after and never bleed into effect rendering.
Dither video rewrite — Floyd-Steinberg on a downsampled grid with pure B&W squares. Size slider now controls grid density directly.
Export matches preview — all 6 effects render correctly at 720p, 1080p, and 2K for both image and video. Characters scale font proportionally at export resolution.
Shuffle and Remix updated — both now include Filled mode and all 12 character presets. Fill slider hides correctly for Filled ASCII.
Shuffle atomicity — old image stays visible during load, new image and effect appear together with no flicker or blank state.
ASCII style labels — Grid renamed to Uniform, Organic renamed to Dynamic.
Default state on load — opens with ASCII Filled mode, Cinematic preset, and a curated filter combination for an immediate strong result.
Export defaults to JPG — faster, smaller files out of the box. PNG still available.
Unified dropdown styling — all dropdowns share the same glass style, open consistently, and scroll internally without clipping.
v0.1.1
Blending Modes, Scatter + Compare
June 2026
new features
Before / after compare slider — drag to reveal the original image under the effect. Works on all effects and filter combos.
Blend modes for all effects — choose how each pixel effect composites onto your image. Normal, overlay, screen, multiply, and more.
Opacity + Scatter controls — dial in how much of the effect shows, and add randomness to the pattern placement.
Rebuilt Glow — glow now targets highlights only instead of the full image. Much more useful as a stylistic tool.
5 new character presets — ASCII, Hacker, Symbols, Alpha, Numeric. Sharper rendering and proper brightness-to-character mapping throughout.
improvements
Remix randomises more — now includes blend mode, opacity, and scatter in the random output.
Filter categories — sliders now grouped into Tone, Color, Texture, Lens, Distort, and Base for easier navigation.
Download composites correctly — exported images now bake blend mode and opacity into the final file.
Reset is a true clean slate — all filters, effects, and settings return to neutral defaults.
Toast feedback on empty actions — helpful nudge when you try to download or compare without an image loaded.
Variable rename throughout — coverage → fill, quantity → density, and others. More intuitive labelling across the board.
